Different gamefowl farms have unsimilar ways of breeding chickens. Some cockers preferred the bloodlines, characters and the enormous strength in fighting. But some need the off color chicken on their farms to familiarize its distinction. Regular chicken needs to distinguish its opponent immediately. Similarly, cockfighting needs the off-color chicken in the cockpit arena for the purpose of eliminating confusion.

Other fighting cocks would think that off-color chicken is a hen. So, instead to fight at once, they will not attack immediately until they hurt. Cockers knew beforehand the characters of its fighting cocks to eliminate losses in the cockpit arena.

Usually, that’s the tendency of regular chicken to be defeated when fighting with off-color chicken fighters. It’s a must for fighter chickens to attack at once in the fighting arena. Because of this, it is really important to put off-color chicken in our farmyard.  Actually, Hennie chicken is not a gay chicken; there’s no gay chicken in the cockfighting world.

Breeders sometimes hide the bloodlines of their chickens by mixing it with off-color, in case of making them the true fighter. Also off colored chickens have an advantage to mask the expensive and a very deadly breed all throughout. This is called the feathered warrior or gladiators for some cockers. It ushered the distinctive color from regular ones and can intimidate its opponent. They believed that off-color chicken have also skills like the regular chickens.

In the long run, off-color and regular color has no difference at all except for their color. But some superstitious cockers believed that they are lucky ones.  Both of them have a unique style in terms of fighting style and could kill their enemies. Only the wise and strong chickens have the chance to survive.

In the past, some cockers don’t like feather dusters colored chickens except for a few like Doms and Golds. For the breeders of the past, they had this notion not to exchange gameness for a beautiful color. And in fact, if you are a breeder, the mere presence in the progenies with many different colors is a sign of genetic deterioration except for white colors that is considered usual throwbacks, but other colors was an omen to a breeder and suspicion that the eggs were stolen and replaced with another egg is a consideration.

Believe it or not, there are some cockers doesn’t like off color chickens because they believed that they are weak and not for fighting. Maybe they associated them with broiler chickens. Different opinions matters most to some but sometimes it differs in real cockfighting.

At present, everything has already changed, off-color chickens are becoming popular. Remember the Zamboanga White of Boy Primallion? It was a great chicken when Boy was still active in cockfighting. Of course, even the Dom made history in Philippine cockfighting when GenGen Arayata became a champion in World Slasher Cup using that bloodline. Then, the tandem also of Doc Ronnie Magbalon and Engr. Ralph Daigo was become also a champion in the said prestige derby using the Dom came from GenGen.

Cockfighting for some cockers is a game of chance and off color sometimes wins a derby.  It depends on how you breed and condition them to the fullest of their fighting skills. Other off color chicken breeders carrying this chicken because they also want to have a remarkable record while using this bloodline. Many cockers won for their regular color chicken, that’s why, only few cockers have a name using off color fighters in the gamefowl industry.
